Buskers Puppet (Jig Doll)

American Folk Art buskers puppet. Carved and painted jig doll/dancing figure of carved and painted softwood, partially or fully of reused crates, etc., of fairly unusual form having a standing figure in a white jacket and matching white shoes, and mounted to a stand having a vertical support behind the figure on which a rod with string can be rested to make the figure dance.

These were often used by street performers during the 1930s accompanied by music and a "bowl" for a tip.

Signed and dated on the underside "J. EVERHART / MARCH 4 / 1937". Retains the original paint-decorated surface. Dated 1937. Very good overall condition with minor typical wear to the surface. 13 1/2" H, 4" x 10" base.
