Early Morning Buck by Sheryl Bodily

Early Morning Buck by Sheryl Bodily

(1936- ) Oil on canvas. 20" x 24.
Sheryl Bodily was born in Boise, Idaho on April 20, 1936 as the second oldest of five siblings. Bodily grew up collecting artifacts and arrowheads across the six different farms his father operated during his childhood. This early interest greatly influenced Bodily’s work over the coming years. He began using his primary medium of oils at the age of 14, which he still mainly uses today. Bodily studied commercial art for two years at Brigham Young University before traveling extensively across the Southwest where he continued to learn about Native and western culture. He began exhibiting in the Pacific Northwest in 1970, where his pieces began to sell for twice the listed value at auction. This upward trajectory has only continued. Today, Bodily lives in Montana where he still paints, inspired by Native American and Western history and scenery. He was the winner of the 1986 Ellensburg Washington Rodeo Association Poster Award, the winner of Best of Show/Flatwork at the Florence Festival Art Auction in Florence, Montana, and the Goody Indian Cultural Award at the National Art Show. He is still widely exhibited in New Mexico, Arizona, and Idaho, with buyers as far as Germany, Switzerland, Holland, and Australia.
