Inuit carved walrus ivory sea on prehistorc tusk slice. Noted on bottom "seal is new ivory, base is sliced from a walrus tusk which has been buried 200-300 years. DEC. 1975." These carvings were usually small carvings from walrus ivory, representing local animals and Inuit themselves, going about everyday life. Seals, caribou, polar bears, birds, and other animals important to Inuitās survival were often represented.
