Large Ojibwe Bandolier Bag

Ojibwe bandolier bag with floral beading with glass tube and yarn drops. Panel without pocket. Noted: Collection 1702-G = 23 Ojibwe. Came from a Nez Perce family. Straps 6" x 22" Overall 48" Panel 14" x 16"

The Ojibwe people can be found through Ontario and into Montana. The name ā€œOjibweā€ (meaning ā€œpuckered upā€) was given to them by other tribes, referencing their traditional moccasins with a puckered seam on top. The Ojibwe call themselves ā€œAnishinaabegā€, meaning ā€œTrue People.ā€ Archaeological and linguistic evidence along with tribal oral tradition suggests that Ojibwe, Ottawa, and Potawatomi all originated from the same tribe and eventually split into three different groups.
