Northern Plains Drum

Large Northern Plains hide drum with painted design on both sides, peg holes surround the drum on the outside with a hide handle. On one side, a man/spirit figure holding in each hand with bent arms long stemmed calumets, red spirit lines radiating from his head a circular head painted red, body painted black with a heart line within a red heart, three alternating unpainted sections, two kidneys painted red and black. Red spirit lines emanating downward from his feet. Horse tracks in red surrounding the spirit figure and go both in clockwise and counter-clockwise direction. A circular blue line surrounds the entire image with a Native repair showing heavy use. The reverse depicts a grizzly in black paint with four limbs and long claws, large mouth with many teeth in both jaws, a red heart line with two red and unpainted sections, two red painted kidneys and a black tail. Has Native repair showing use. A very desirable piece.
