Remington 1889 SXS 12 Gauge Shotgun

Remington 1889 SXS 12 Gauge Shotgun

Remington 1899 side by side 12 gauge shotgun with 25 3/4" cut down barrels. The barrel flat is marked Remington Arms Co. Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A. with both lockplates marked Remington Arms Co. There are numerous proof markings on the underside of the barrels. Both barrel, forend and water table marked with matching serial numbers 62, and 223974. The water table is marked 1 indicating a lower to mid-grade shotgun.

The condition is fair. The bore has areas of pitting. The barrels and steel furniture have aquired a light brown patina. The walnut stocks have period nicks and scrapes. The barrel was cut down. Handmade German Silver sights were crudely applied with adhesive and a leather wrap at somepoint. The buttstock has been decorated with a german silver plate reading "Bureau Indian Affairs Armory Rack 30B." The buttplate is handmade from wood painted in black with a copper inlay stamped "BIA." These adornments appear to be much later and added to enhance the decorative aspects of the shotgun.
