The Roper by Vic Donahue
Oil on board by Vic Donahue(1918-2008). Oil on cavas. 16" x 20." Raised in Omaha, Donahue became a newspaper artist there and in Chicago. He was an official combat artist in WWII, painting marines in the Pacific. After the war, he joined the Scripps-Howard Newspaper Syndicate in Cleveland as a featured artist. He was nominated two times for the Pullitzer Prize for best newspaper feature of the year. Donahue later moved to New York City, where he was a book, magazine and advertising illustrator before he turned to fine art painting. In 1962, he moved to Tucson and specialized in the Western genre.
